The Power of Resurrection in Uncertain Times

“The resurrection gives my life meaning and direction and the opportunity to start over no matter what my circumstances.” – Robert Flatt

April brings us to the heart of the Christian calendar—Easter. A time to celebrate the risen Christ, the empty tomb, and the unmatched power of hope in the face of darkness. In a world that often feels heavy with uncertainty—wars that seem endless, economies that strain our families, and a constant stream of bad news—it can be hard to feel hopeful. And yet, Easter reminds us that even in the bleakest of moments, God is still writing the story.

My family and I have had the opportunity to live in both the northern and southern hemispheres. Growing up in South Africa, Easter marked the beginning of very cold weather—especially in the Free State. I never quite understood the colorful easter eggs or what they had to do with anything. Easter felt appropriately cold and dark. Then we moved to London, and suddenly Easter came with daffodils, sunshine, and the first signs of spring. The colorful eggs and joyful decorations made perfect sense—it was the beginning of new life.

It’s funny how both of these seasons are perfectly represented in the Easter story: the cold and darkness of Good Friday, when the world watched as our Saviour hung on the cross, and then the bursting joy and color of the resurrection when the stone was rolled away. We can only imagine what a powerful, awe-inspiring moment that must have been. A moment that literally changed everything.

The resurrection of Jesus wasn’t just a miracle for that one morning in Jerusalem—it was a declaration for all time that death does not have the final word. The cross may have looked like defeat, but it was actually the pathway to eternal victory. And that same resurrection power is still at work today. In every hopeless situation, in every loss, in every “I don’t know what to do,” Jesus meets us with His risen presence. He breathes life into what feels dead and brings peace to what feels broken.

This year, more than ever, I’m holding on to the hope of Easter. Not the fluffy bunny kind (though I do love a good chocolate egg), but the deep, soul-restoring kind that reminds us that God is still moving. He is not shaken by the world’s chaos. He is not confused by our confusion. Just as He rolled the stone away, He is still making a way for His people—through every crisis, every storm, and every heartache. “In this world you will have trouble,” Jesus said, “but take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

So, this Easter, let’s celebrate not just a moment in history, but a living reality. The tomb is empty, and hope is alive. Whether your world feels steady or uncertain, let the resurrection be your anchor. Because He lives, we can face today, tomorrow, and every day to come with confidence. May this season fill your heart with peace, strength, and joy—because we know how the story ends, and it ends in victory.

🕊️ Family Easter Challenge

Sometime this week, gather your family—around the dinner table, in the car, or even on a walk—and ask each person to answer this question: “Where have you seen God bring new life or hope this year?”

It could be something big, like an answered prayer, or something small, like a moment of peace in a stressful day. Write them down, share them aloud, or turn them into a family prayer of thankfulness. Let Easter be more than just a day—it can be a powerful reminder, as a family, that God is always working, even in the unseen.
