“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates
March is here, and with it, the changing of seasons. In some parts of the world, autumn is beginning to paint the trees in golden hues, while in others, spring is bursting forth with new life. One thing is certain—change is in the air. And isn’t it fitting that Lent falls during this time of transition? It’s a season of renewal, reflection, and refocusing, not just in nature, but in our spiritual lives as well.
Lent has always been about change—about turning our hearts back to God, simplifying our lives, and making space for what truly matters. But this year, the idea of change feels more personal than ever. My oldest has started university, and my youngest is in senior school, both stepping into their own independence. And here I am, realizing that my season of parenting young children is shifting. It’s easy to feel a little lost in times like these, wondering, Who am I now? What is my purpose in this new season? It’s a strange but beautiful irony of life—change is the only constant.
But even as everything shifts around us, one thing remains unchanging: God. “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8). In a world of uncertainty, He is our anchor. And so, this Lent, instead of focusing on what is passing, I choose gratitude—gratitude for where He has brought us, for the ways He has protected and guided us, and for the new opportunities ahead. I choose to embrace this new season with faith, knowing that just as God has been with me in the past, He will continue to walk beside me into the future.
Lent is a time to pause and ask ourselves: What do I need to let go of? Where do I need renewal? How can I refocus on what truly matters? Maybe, like me, your life is shifting in a new direction. Or maybe you simply need to declutter the distractions of everyday life and make space for God’s voice. Whatever it is, I encourage you to take this time to reflect, redefine, and refocus. What will your theme for Lent be this year? What will your family focus on? Let’s use this season to draw closer to God, remembering that even as the seasons change, His love and faithfulness remain the same.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” – James 4:8
